EVANGELIUM VITAE

The Gospel of Life was promulgated by Pope John Paul II March 25 ,1995.  I read it that year and still keep a copy of it in my bookcase.  It profoundly impacted the way I look at life, in that it made me appreciate the dignity of all human life created by God.  Dignity is not selectively endowed and therefore we should respect the dignity of all human life.  In a time when the Catholic Church is being attacked for its stance on abortion it is an explanation of the Church’s position.  It explains why that position is inviolate and why abortion is a serious sin against God.  In a time of mass shootings, sexual and other exploitation, drug trafficking, war, rampant murder and other violent crimes it is a reminder that all of these are also attacks on the dignity of human beings and therefore against God who created us all.  If we were all to acknowledge and embrace the dignity of all human beings the sins of the world would surely decrease.
